In this course, we review the basic language of anatomy and take a closer look at the musculoskeletal system, focusing on areas especially pertinent to asana practice: joint structure, soft tissue and fascia. We will discuss the role of the nervous system in perception and movement, the specific anatomy of the breath, and take a practical look at both the limitations and possibilities of different bodies in asana, and learn to use this knowledge to teach and practice with kindness and sustainability. We will also discuss the yogic concept of the energy body, and how it intertwines with a Western understanding of physical anatomy.

This course is intended for yoga teachers but is also recommended for serious practitioners.

Philosophy: Living the Heart of Yoga

with Missy Caldwell -  February 6-8, 2026

This weekend will blend discussion, self-inquiry, movement, and modern teaching tools to help you teach and live with greater clarity, authenticity, and most importantly, your heart. Whether you are a philosophy enthusiast or simply seeking more depth and meaning in your teaching, this experience will help you make the teachings your own, not just as a student, but as a guide. While modern yoga is often centered on physical practice, its foundations are far more  expansive reaching back thousands of years to the sacred inquiry: “Who am I beyond this  body and mind?”

Rooted in Mukunda Stiles’ poetic translation of the Yoga Sutras, this program explores how ancient wisdom can guide modern life both on and off of the yoga mat. Stiles trained in  multiple yoga lineages including Kripalu, Iyengar, and Viniyoga but what distinguished his work  was how he combined tradition with inner inquiry, body-mind healing, and spiritual insight. His  work consistently centered on yoga as a path of self-liberation, healing, and devotion not just  asana or performance.

In addition, you will deepen your understanding through the accessible lens of Deborah  Adele’s, the Yamas & Niyamas and relax into the practical embodiment found in Judith  Lasater’s classic, Living Your Yoga.

Lastly, we will rely strongly on the depth of the lineage in T.K.V. Desikachar’s, The Heart of Yoga, and the wisdom of the scientific sage, B.K.S. Iyengar’s personal insights from his many  writings but specifically for this study, The Tree of Yoga

Curriculum:

  • Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras - Mukunda Stiles overview of the Four Padas

  • T.K.V. Desikachar’s teachings of the Yoga Sutras - Practice is the Path

  • Deborah Adele - Embodying the Yamas & Niyamas as invitations  to live with integrity, courage, and compassion in everyday life.

  • Judith Lasater’s Living our Yoga - a real-life way of living with presence, compassion, & awareness in every relationship, moment & challenge.

  • B.K.S. Iyengar’s A Tree with many Branches - with many branches leading toward the same goal of union with the self & the divine

  • Rolf Gates’ Grounded as a Teacher - mindful & compassionate presence to weave philosophy into asana and daily teaching

Elevating Private Yoga Sessions

with Gillian St. Clair, November 14-16, 2025

Course Overview:

Private sessions can be some of the most rewarding—and most complex—teaching experiences. Unlike group classes, private lessons require a different mindset, deeper listening, and a flexible, student-centered approach. In this module, you'll learn how to offer private sessions that are personalized, impactful, and sustainable, for both you and your student.

Curriculum:

  • Plan and structure sessions based on individual needs, goals, and limitations

  • Set and maintain healthy boundaries while holding space with compassion and professionalism

  • Use props creatively to offer support, challenge, or greater access in personalized ways

  • Teach beyond the flow—how to keep sessions engaging and effective without relying on constant movement

  • Create meaningful progress without needing to “perform” or entertain.

  • Understand the energetic dynamics of one-on-one work and how to care for yourself in the process

Whether you’re just starting to offer private sessions or want to deepen your current offerings, this workshop will provide you with the tools, confidence, and clarity to teach with integrity and effectiveness to most students in a private setting. You'll leave with practical tools, real-time experience, and strategies to intentionally grow this part of your teaching.

The power of breath: Pranayama, Energy, and Modern Breath Science

with Evan Galante & Brooke Allison - January 9-11, 2026

Pranayama—the art of breath control and energy regulation—has always been central to yogic practice. Asana prepares the body and mind by building steadiness and focus; pranayama bridges the physical with the energetic, awakening our subtle body and preparing us for deeper states of meditation and self-awareness. In this course, we will deepen our understanding and direct experience of traditional and modern breath practices, and learn how to skillfully teach them in both group and private settings.

In addition to classical pranayama techniques, we will explore modern breathing methods including the Wim Hof Method—a powerful combination of rhythmic breathing and cold exposure designed to increase vitality, reduce inflammation, and build resilience. Through this work, we will engage with the science of breath: how intentional breathing influences vagal tone, heart rate variability (HRV), emotional regulation, immune function, and the gut-brain connection.

We’ll discuss how to use breathwork as a gateway to parasympathetic activation, nervous system balance, and enhanced mind-body awareness—practices that are increasingly recognized in both integrative wellness and trauma-informed care.

Curriculum:

  • The origins and philosophy of pranayama from yogic texts, alongside modern applications

  • Wim Hof Method fundamentals and guided cold exposure practices for resilience and focus

  • Anatomy and science of breath: vagus nerve stimulation, HRV, HR deceleration, and mood regulation

  • The relationship between breath, digestion, and the gut-brain axis

  • How to structure a personal breath practice and teach pranayama effectively to others

  • Bandhas and their engagement in breath and movement

  • Seasonal and health considerations, as well as contraindications for pranayama practices

  • How CO₂ tolerance and breath-hold training can enhance oxygen efficiency, endurance, and mental clarity

  • Breath’s role in shifting brainwave states (e.g., alpha, theta) to support meditation, sleep, and creative flow
